“So, the whole thing’s a hoax?” Danny asked, all too loudly.

“Pretty much, it’s more like a prank that got out of hand,” Nate replied.

“I think it’s wonderful that you've finally been reunited with your friend,” Danny said. “If anyone deserves love and affection, it's you.”

“Thanks, Danny,” Nate said with a smile.

It was their lunch break and Nate slumped into a cavernous easy chair across from Danny. Conversations in the restaurant swirled around them. Outside, the weather looked perfect.

“It's too bad Ash can't join us for lunch,” Danny said. “I would love to get to know him more. I mean, you've been my best friend and a part of my life for so many years. Other than the stuff written about him online, the guy’s a total enigma. Invite him out for lunch tomorrow.”

“Fat chance of that, his diet is extremely strict at the moment,” Nate said. “Plus, I need to talk with you.”

“Yeah, I know. I just want to know more about the man who stole your heart. You’ve changed. You’re different.”

Nate laughed, “What are you talking about?”

“That, for one thing,” Danny said, pointing his fork at Nate. “You laugh a lot more nowadays. Ever since he showed up, you’ve been daydreaming and smiling to yourself a lot.”

“Oh, wow, I never noticed.”

“Well, I have and it makes me happy to see you happy,” Danny said. “So, have you come out to Rachel?”

“What do you—?” Nate paused as he caught onto what Danny was asking. He'd never truly considered himself to be gay, even though he always had feelings for Ash. He just thought it was a crazy fantasy.

“The world thinks you’re married to your childhood friend and you haven’t told her?” Danny sprung up in his chair. “Wow, aren't you worried that she'll find out? I mean the fight circuit is really small.”

“That's why I called you for lunch,” Nate said.

“So, it's not for my good looks,” Danny sighed. “Oh well, that's a pity.”

“Danny, even if I were gay, I wouldn't go for you.”

“Well, why not?” Danny said, pretending to be offended.

“Well, I don't grunt where I hunt,” Nate said with a cheeky grin.

Danny laughed,

“How'd you explain Ash?”

“That's different. We’re pretending to be married and I live with him. It’s not like we’re married. It’s just fun,” Nate convinced himself that this was true, but the memory of Ash’s arms around him, his lips pressed to him, flashed in his mind.

“I suppose. Not to mention that Ash has the whole bad boy thing going,” Danny said.

“He's not a bad boy,” Nate said. “Just because he's a fighter, it doesn't mean he's a bad boy.”

“You've changed your tune. It wasn't too long ago when fighters wanted to kick your ass and you considered them dicks,” Danny said. “What's changed? Now that the world knows about you and Ash, I bet you've been getting VIP treatment from every gym.”

Nate huffed. “That’s not true.”

Danny raised an eyebrow.

“Okay, they have been more welcoming,” Nate said.

“That's more like it.”

“But only at Russell’s Gym,” Nate said. “I haven’t been to other gyms.
